For all the huff and fuss about how many apps are in the Apple App Store, the Android Market or BlackBerry App World, it seems apps aren’t actually getting that much use when the U.S. market is considered as a whole. A new Pew Research Center/Nielsen Company study, titled “The Rise of Apps Culture“, goes in-depth on app statistics and makes the case that perhaps more time is given to apps than might be warranted.
The study indicates that 35 percent of cell phone owners have apps pre-loaded or manually downloaded on their phones, but only two-thirds of those users actually use this software actively. When those numbers are taken together, that means only 24 percent of adult users use apps. Not surprisingly, one-tenth of adult cell phone users aren’t sure if they have apps on their phones or not.
