A lot of back and forth is going on these days over American cable TV’s obsession with the George Zimmerman trial, accused of killing an unarmed teenager under the color of self-defense.
Critics complain that the murder trial simply does not warrant almost completely eclipsing coverage of “the Cairo uprising, President Barack Obama’s climate speech, the slaughter in Syria, voters’ rights, the NSA outrages, Wall Street, congressional hearings, and other examples of ‘meaningful’ and ‘important’ news.“
Critics of the the critics say those disgruntled folks are just trying to impose their values about what the public should be required to pay attention to.
