Google has announced a new metatag called “news_keywords” to allow digital journalists to add up to 10 keywords or phrases, the words a reader may put in to the Google search engine to find an article on that subject.

Not sure why Journalism.co.uk, in reporting this, makes a point in its headline to call it a “hidden keyword metatag.” What’s with “hidden”? It’s right there in the page code and it’s not like metatags by their nature are intended to be visible to the front-end consumer.
